Thomas "Tom" Taragos, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend went to Heaven to join his wife, Sharon, on May 23, 2023.
Tom was born on April 29, 1946 to parents Steve and Dolores in Minneapolis, MN. He was raised in Richfield, MN and graduated from Richfield High School in 1964. After high school, Tom went to the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a business degree. In 1969, Tom married the love of his life Sharon, they were married for 52 years. During college and for many years afterwards, Tom worked as a groundskeeper at the old Metropolitan Stadium. During his time there, he was known as "Tommy the Greek" by the entire Vikings and Twins organization. He had so many wonderful stories to share about his time there from the Vikes and Twins games, to the Beatles, and meeting Elvis. He cherished those years at the Old Met. Tom also worked for Chattem Consumer products for over 35 years and he grew brands such as Gold Bond and Icy Hot. He loved his job and took so much pride in what he did.
Tom's proudest moments were raising his two children Mitch and Jane. He loved to coach whatever sport they played in but specifically loved to coach football and softball. Tom was also very active in the Plymouth/Wayzata community as he helped to run the Wayzata Youth Football Clinics for many years. He had a passion for teaching kids about working hard but also how to love a sport. At one point, Tom was also Vice President of the Plymouth Crime and Prevention Fund. During this time, he worked to secure enough funds to provide a bulletproof vest for the only K-9 officer that Plymouth had at the time. This vest was one of the first in the state and he was very proud of that.
A special thank you to the Glenn in Minnetonka for all of the love and attention that was given to Tom. We are also very grateful for Park Nicollet Hospice as they gave Tom comfort and peace throughout his last days.
Tom joined his wife Sharon in Heaven and is survived by son Mitch (Erin); daughter Jane (Jeff) Morris; grandkids Mason and Kellan Taragos and granddogs, Merlin (Mitch) and also Louie, Quinny, and Marky (Jane.)
The memorial service will be at St. Philip the Deacon Church, 17205 County Road 6 in Plymouth, MN on Sunday, June 11th with the visitation at 1pm and the service at 2pm. The service will also be livestreamed at spdlc.org/livestream.
