Thomas J. Stinson, 81, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on December 8, 2020 in his home in Conroe.
Funeral Services will be held at 3pm on Thursday December 17, 2020 at Eickenhorst Funeral Services, 1712 N Frazier St #115, Conroe, TX 77301, with Don Kidd officiating. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seating is limited but a Memorial Service will be planned for next year when the situation is safer.
Tom Stinson was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Alvah and Muriel Stinson on February 1, 1939. He went to Bishop Byrne High School and attended Lamar University and University of Houston. He married Jo Ann on May 1, 1971. After spending time in both Dallas and Midland, Texas, he returned to Conroe as Director of the Greater Conroe Economic Development Council (GCEDC) in 1995. Tom's leadership has culminated in the GCEDC being designated as an Accredited Economic Development Organization? by the International Economic Development Council. It is only the fourth organization in Texas and the twenty-seventh in North America to receive this accreditation. Tom served as the 2007 Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Texas Economic Development Council. He and his wife Jo Ann have been active in several community philanthropies including the Montgomery County Food Bank and American Cancer Society.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father Alvah and Muriel Stinson, his brother George Stinson and his daughter, Lara Stinson. After Lara's passing, Tom and Jo Ann raised Lara's three children, Justin, Joie and Ryan.
Tom is survived by his wife Jo Ann; his children Kim Adams and her husband Craig Chambers, Tom Stinson and his wife Kelly, Michael Ryan, John Stinson, Jack Stinson and his wife Julie, and Melianie Stinson; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and cousin Jack Rustamier.
The family wishes that donations be made in the name of Thomas J. Stinson to the Montgomery County Food Bank in lieu of sending flowers.
