Thomas Trail Speak Sr., 73, of Frederick, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of Shirley M. Speak for nearly 52 years. Born on July 24, 1936, in Frederick, he was the son the late Clarence F. and Lillian I. (Trail) Speak.
Tom retired from his work at Walkersville High School in 1998, after 25 years of service to the school. He continued his work for Grace United Church of Christ and served that church for 32 years. He loved working in his yard and always had wonderful flowers. He loved his family, particularly his grandson.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Sherry Harris and husband, Glenn, of Frederick, and Thomas T. Speak Jr. of Frederick. He is also survived by a very special grandson, Brandon Lee Harris and his girlfriend, Amanda Zimmerman. He was the brother of Delmar Speak and his wife, Barba, of Frederick, Robert L. Speak of Pennsylvania, Gloria (Toots) McGlaun of Georgia, and Pat Huntzberry and husband, Ron, of Frederick. He is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Clarence F. Speak Jr., Donald H. Speak and Wayne E. Speak Sr.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Keeney and Basford, P.A., Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Joseph R. Foster and the Rev. R. Christopher Spruill of Grace United Church of Christ will officiate.
Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
