Thomas C. "Tom" Mahan was born in Turton, South Dakota on June 11th, 1929 to Floyd and Blanche (Fortin) Mahan and passed away on March 5th, 2021 in Keller, Texas. He grew up and attended school in Turton, Clark, and then on to South Dakota State where he continued playing basketball. After graduating from college Tom entered the Army and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Lenz, on June 23, 1953 before being honorably discharged later that year. Tom then began his sales career and became very active in the JayCees where he became State President. While in Rapid City their first son was born and after a few moves settled in a southern suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul where their second son Pat was born. It was during this time that he and his partner built the first computerized collection agency with fortune 100 customers nationwide. They sold the business but he continued his entrepreneurial ways with several businesses before retiring and moving with MaryAnn to Phoenix. He will be remembered as a loving father, strong businessman, entrepreneur, and excellent salesman. He loved sports, fishing, and playing games. He was a fierce, but very fair competitor and enjoyed coaching and teaching others. He is survived by his two sons and daughters in law, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife MaryAnn, his brother Jack, and sister Mertys Reese. He will be laid to rest in Phoenix next to his wife of 65 years at 1:00pm Friday, April 9, 2021 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Mesa, Arizona.
