Thomas H. Langevin, age 100 years, of Venice, Florida passed away October 31, 2022 in Venice, Florida.
He was born 1n 1922 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by Pearl in 2009, his wife of 70 years. They shared a commitment of basic service to the Lutheran Church, both having been trained as Lutheran teachers. Tom was in the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II after which he used the GI Bill to complete college and earn his Ph.D. in American History in 1951 at the University of Nebraska. Tom taught American History and Government at Concordia University Nebraska and at the University of Nebraska Extension Department until he went into administration as Dean and Acting President at Concordia. He won a Carnegie Post- Doctoral Fellowship in Higher Education at the University of Michigan in 1963. The next year he did a major planning project for the Missouri Synod's Higher Education Department. After that, he became Academic Vice President at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington for four years. In 1969 he became president of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio for ten years. He then established his own consulting company in higher education, Thomas H. Langevin & Associates, which provided him a career of service at hundreds of colleges and universities. He also several specific programs in the Lutheran Higher Education. His 2018 published book, Let's Get Started, attest to his record as the creator of quite a number of institutions and projects. In 1992, in association with longtime partner Allen Koenig, he created a new enterprise entitled Registry for Colleges and University Presidents, which he and Pearl ran personally for some years until his company sold the Registry of Collegiate Enterprise Solutions (CES), as the owner of the Registry. He remained on staff of the Registry part time until his death. The CES/Registry is a well-known, highly successful company serving hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Tom is survived Sons: Dennis and Timothy; Grandsons: Justin Langevin, John and Jason Langevin and Nicholas Killian; Great Grandson Sebastian Killian; Sister Maryann Franzen and her family, Kate Deborah, Sherrie and Frank; and by Judy Koenig and her family, Wendy, Jodie, and Mark. He also has several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Thomas H. Langevin will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday November 14, 2022 at Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, of which he was one of four original Founders and First President of the Congregation. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. He and Pearl have a memorial marker at Hope Lutheran Church, but will in interred in Seward, Nebraska, where they met and spent some wonderful years.
