Thomas "Sky" Knecht, 73, Windber, died April 28, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. Born Jan. 12, 1948 in Windber, son of Stephen and Catherine (Casper) Knecht. Preceded in death by parents, brother Stephen Knecht, and sister Carolyn Coward. Survived by wife of 50 years the former Marsha Custer; sons: Michael and Tracy Knecht and Robert and Apryl Knecht; grandchildren: Nathan, Mitchell, Nicholas, and Autumn (fianc? Mitchell Miesco) Knecht; great granddaughter Aloniah Miesco; and sister Catherine (Bruce) Pertko. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Steubenville, OH, and an Army Helicopter Pilot in the Vietnam War. He was a coal miner and a pilot in the coal industry. Member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, Stoystown American Legion, and Moose Lodge #349, Windber. He loved playing cards, watching Steelers football and his grandchildren's sporting activities, and spending time with his family. A memorial service will held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Masks and social distancing required. Pastor Sharon Fox officiating.
