Thomas "Tom" William Kennedy Hartney, 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on December 26, 2020 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Tom is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Ann, his son, Douglas and his step-son, Ralph Miller.
Tom is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirley A. Hartney (Miller), children, Dennis (Valerie) Hartney, Virginia (Richard) Lynch, Mary Beth (Richard) Shahady, Lori (Russell) Hayes, Dana Hartney, and "outlaw", Kim Miller, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tom served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Family of Faith Church (UMC) on Market Street (Church of The Master), he was an avid volunteer at Summa Health, and various church and community programs. Tom was also a member of the ABC Polka Association and, along with his wife Shirley, enjoyed spending time with friends at the club dancing and socializing!
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the supportive and caring staff at Brookdale Montrose Senior Living, the Brookdale Hospice Staff, and Dr. John Disabato.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the: Family of Faith Church (UMC), 800 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44305. Due to the current Covid restrictions, a private graveside service will be held, with Pastor Ron Schultz officiating. A celebration of Tom's life will be planned at a later date.
