Thomas Denison Frick, age 76, of Mound, Minnesota, died on January 13th, 2025 of multiple organ failure. Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 11th, 1948 to George Peter Frick and Margaret Ann (McElroy) Frick, grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs, and then moved to Hamilton, Massachusetts where he attended Hamilton-Wenham High School. He went to Colby University in Maine and then to the University of Illinois where he earned a PhD in Biochemistry. He did post-doctoral research at the Freshwater Biology Institute in Mound, Mn. Tom also taught at the College of Chiropractic of Northwestern Health Sciences University and then at the University of Phoenix. Tom played and sang in a bluegrass band, the Kounty Line while at the Freshwater Biology Institute, and attended bluegrass festivals for many years. After retirement, Tom tutored in Orono High School in Long Lake, Mn. where he formed some life-long relationships with his students. He is survived by his brother Peter Frick (Ronna), his sister Nancy Taylor (John), and loving nieces and nephew, Carrie, Emily, Susan, and David as well as several grandnieces and nephews and dear friends. Tom was a quiet, unassuming man who cared about science, technology, and music. His presence will be sorely missed.
There will be a memorial service on February 8th at The Gillespie Center, 2590 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN 55364, from 12-3 P.M. Tom had suffered a massive heart attack at age 36 and survived for 40 years due to the excellent care he received from the medical establishment. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Heart Association, the cardiac unit at Abbott Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis, or a charity of your choice.
