Thomas "Thom" F Dye, 73, passed away Wednesday February 2, 2022 after a long battle from complications of Covid.
Thom was a proud US Navy Veteran. He served honorably on the USS Saratoga during Vietnam.
Thom, who loved his Irish Heritage, was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a good neighbor and friend. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether it be to someone passing by, or to volunteer at Haven of Rest during Thanksgiving. He was always trying to make people laugh. You could find him smiling, that ornery smile of his. People loved to comment on his hair, and how he resembled Kenny Rogers or Santa Claus.
Thom loved watching Ohio State Football Games onTV. If he missed them, for sure they were taped. Never to mention who won or a score around him until it was watched.
He loved growing his precious tomato plants every year. Always making the comment that this year would be the year that he would get it right with the peppers, onions, or whatever else he was planting alongside his tomatoes.
Along with every Saturday's Football, every Monday morning you could find him at Farmer Boy going to breakfast with his Goodyear buddies.
He is retired from 39 years at Goodyear, where he worked calendaring rubber, being known to his co-workers as Touch Tone Tommy.
Aside from all of this, his pride and joy was his great grandson Garret. He loved to go to all Garret's baseball, basketball and long ago, soccer games. It bothered him to miss any of them. He always commented to anyone how proud he was of Garret, and how much he "loved him most".
Thom would want to be remembered as a protector of his family, who was always there for them. Even though he may not have said the words I love you, he truly loved each and every one of them in his own way. He'd also want them to know he'd see them later but never....
Thom is survived by wife, Bonita "Bonnie"; son, Shaun; daughter, Tracy; granddaughters, Brittney & Jordan; great grandson, Garret; furbaby, Benjee; sister, Teresa "Terri"; nephew, Winston "Winnie"; as well as many family, friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by mother, Mary Catherine "Kate" and father Thurman; brother Michael "Mike".
Cremation has taken place. An inurnment with military honors will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Thom would've wanted donations extended to Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund or BoysTown Charities which were all passions of his.
