Thomas Joseph Dolan, Jr., 87, of Richmond, VA passed away, Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Marie Dolan; his two children, Pamela Dolan and her husband, Brian Childley of Mystic, CT and Maria Janoschka and her husband, Andrew of Richmond, VA. He had five grandchildren, Luke, Nell, Caroline, Simon and Ben, who were the pride of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Annie Dolan who were both Irish immigrants; sisters, Margaret Thompson and Mary Ciapciak.
Tom attended Boston College High School and the College of Holy Cross, Class of 1958 and Suffolk University Law School. He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar. Tom was employed by the Department of the Navy for 32 years in the administration of research and development contracts and grants with universities and non-profit organizations. He was a member of the Department of Defense Senior Executive Service and a recipient of the Meritorious Rank Award in the SES. Following his Federal Career, he entered into the field of education as the contract law chair at the Defense Systems Management College. He also was an adjunct professor of Government Contract Law at the College of William and Mary Law School.
Tom was a generous man. He will be remembered for his dry wit, gentle spirit and devotion to his family. Outside if his work and teaching, his passion was the wellbeing of his wife, his two girls, his grandchildren and the Boston Red Sox.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at Cedarfield, especially the Morning Glory Team.
A celebration of life will be held at Cedarfield in Richmond, VA and a memorial mass and interment will be held at St. Bede's Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA at a later date.
