Thomas Clarence Poore, 87, son of the late Clarence and Janelle Poore, passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 8, 2021. Tom, also known to many as "Pa", was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, & friend.
Tom was born October 14, 1933 in Williamston, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Clemson University where he obtained a degree in textile engineering & a Navy Veteran, proudly serving two years on the USS Cambria (APA 36).
In 1958, he married the love of his life, the late Martha Phillips Poore. They had two daughters & shared 51 wonderful years together.
Tom and Martha lived in Westminster, SC where he was the manager of Beacon Manufacturing, served as president of the Lion's Club, and volunteered for Gideons International. He was an active member of Westminster Baptist Church.
In 1974, the family moved to Mauldin, SC where Tom worked and eventually retired from JP Stevens as a manager & textile engineer.
Tom's Christian faith was incredibly important to him & was evident in his daily life. He was a beloved member at Mauldin First Baptist Church & served in several capacities including Sunday School Director, member of the Building Committee, Chairman of the Deacons, and Chairman of the Pulpit Committee.
Tom loved to fish & hunt, spend time at the beach & mountains, & loved Clemson football. He was an incredible storyteller whose stories will be cherished and handed down for many generations to come. He was a member of the Poinsett Club where he enjoyed dinners and events with friends and family, & loved his workouts at the life-center, where he made many dear friends.
Tom's greatest joys were his two daughters and his grandchildren & great-grandchildren. He never missed an award's ceremony, sporting event, or special occasion when it involved his family. His friends and family were incredibly important to him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 51 years, Martha Phillips Poore.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Morenz (Will) and Anne Cantey (Whit); one sister, Louise Marshall (Ken); three grandchildren, Abigail Wing, Annie Morenz Simpson (Dustin), and Russell Thomas Morenz; and three great grandchildren, Katey Marie Simpson, Eliza Grace Simpson, and Hazel Louise Simpson. He is also survived by his dear friend, Celeste Fuller.
Entombment will be Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Remembrance Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:45pm at Mauldin First Baptist Church. Immediately following, there will be a funeral service at 1:00 pm.
