Thomas Joseph Barland, 85, of Lumberton, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022. He was born on May 14, 1936, in Cottonport, Louisiana, to Jessie Thevenot Barland and Charles David Barland.
He graduated from Silsbee High School in May 1955 and joined the United States Navy in June. He served four years and was honorably discharged in 1959, as a parachute rigger 2nd class petty officer, serving aboard the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier.
Thomas met and married his wife, Geraldine, in 1962. They resided in Lumberton for fifty-eight years, where they raised three daughters. He worked at PD Glycol for thirty years, retiring in 1993 as a lead operator.
Survivors include his wife, Jeri Barland; children, Karen Stone and her husband, David, of Overton; Kathy Valastro and her husband, John, of Galveston; and Charlene Kress and her husband, Matt, of Orangefield; grandchildren, Reid Stone of Dallas; Judson Stone of Overton; Alyssa Rodriguez and her husband, J.J., of Houston; Allison Dix and her husband, Cooper, of Corinth; Kendall Kress of Pearland; Matthew Kress of Bridge City; and Caleb Kress of Port Arthur. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kenneth Barland.
A gathering of Mr. Barland's family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Broussard's, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2022, at Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 243 South LHS Drive, Lumberton, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.
