Thomas (Tom) Van Gheem, Green Bay, passed away June 9, 2022 at the age of 77 from cancer, at his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born in Green Bay on April 27, 1945, the only child of Adolph and Viola (Garsow) Van Gheem.
In 1963 he graduated from Freedom High School. On November 19, 1964 he married Lauren (Van Enkevort) at Immaculate Conception Church and they spent the next 57 years making memories. He worked for Armors until they bought Van Gheem’s Grocery in Oneida. Tom worked for Packerland Packing when they sold the grocery store until they bought Van’s Corral Bar in Oneida. When they sold the bar, they moved to Kissimmee, Florida where Tom worked at Walt Disney World as an Irrigation Specialist for 25 years, and then retired.
Tom enjoyed hunting deer and fox with family and friends here in Wisconsin all his life and for the last 10 years hunting antelope in Wyoming with his wife Lauren, daughter Connie, and longtime family friend Ike Jordan.
Tom is survived by wife Lauren, son Rick (Nancy) Van Gheem, daughter Connie Van Gheem and a son-in-law Al Van de Hey. Grandchildren Clint (Krystal) Van de Hey, Kyle (Kaylyn) Van de Hey, Cassie (Kevin) Stellmacher, Crystal (Mclain) Gil, Justin and Ciara Van Gheem, and 15 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Jenny Roffers, Judy Lewins, and Donna Garvey, as well as Marley, his beloved dog.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter Jean Van de Hey, his parents; Adolph and Viola Van Gheem, and parents-in-law James and Aletta Van Enkevort.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held from 1:00PM – 4:00PM at the Freedom Town Hall W2004 Cty Rd S, Freedom on Monday, June 13th. A prayer service will take place at 1:30PM.
