Theola "Sonja" Hoggarth passed away peacefully at Everett Providence Hospital on March 15, 2021 after a long battle with kidney disease. Sonja was born October 8, 1937 in Arlington, WA. She was the last of seven children of Paul and Anna Wangsmo. Sonja grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1956. She was very involved in high school athletics and school activities. After graduation she attended Pacific Lutheran College.
In 1958, Sonja met her future husband and love of her life William (Bill) Hoggarth at a dance in Mount Vernon. They were married on January 10, 1959. Bill and Sonja raised their four children; Heidi (Michael) Clarke, Chris (Teresa) Hoggarth, Stacie (Thomas) Martyn and Dawn (Francisco) Ibanez; in Mountlake Terrace where they lived for over 52 years. Sonja retired from the Edmonds School District in 1996. Throughout her life she was involved in a variety of community groups including, the PTA, Bethesda Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Mountlake Terrace Library Board, and the Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Association as both an officer and coach.
Sonja was devoted to her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ellen Carlson, Georgine Helde, Ester Teague, Peggy Honeycutt and Ruth Yost; and brother, Paul Wangsmo. She is survived by her husband; children; grandchildren, Laura Clarke (Grant Eyles), Jason Clarke, Stephan (Veronica) Peterson, Megan (Trent) Wisdom, and Cody Brewster; great grandchildren Mason and Camila Eyles; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Due to COVID-19, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
