Theodore Souphis (Ted) was born on January 29, 1927 in Highland Park to Daniel and Christina Souphis. He lived in Detroit with his sisters Jenny and Georgia. When his father became ill, Ted supported his family at their business, North Sanitary Cleaners, where he worked until 1985.
He met Mary Sassanas in 1958 and they were married on January 25, 1959. They had three children, and were married for 56 years. On their first anniversary, Ted presented Mary with a rose. Every year afterward, he gave her another rose for each year of marriage, until their fiftieth anniversary, when he filled their house with fifty roses.
