Theodora Helena Schoonover, age 85, of Wilton, Iowa, formerly of Loveland, Colorado, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Wilton Retirement Community. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Memorials may be given to the Muscatine County Humane Society or the Wilton Public Library in her memory. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com. Thea was born on July 26, 1936, the daughter of Leonardus and Maria Catharin (Beelen) Oolders in Haarlem, Netherlands. She graduated from high school in the Netherlands and married Ronald Klerk de Reus I on February 10, 1958 in Holland. They moved to the United States in 1958, settling in Rockford, Illinois. In 1964, Thea became a citizen of the United States. She treasured staying at home and taking care of her family. In the late 1970's, Thea attended D.M.A.C.C. and earned her degree in nursing. She moved to Loveland, Colorado in 1981 and worked as a nurse for McKee Medical Center, until retiring in 1996. Thea recently moved back to the midwest to be closer to her children. Thea enjoyed traveling, especially to Australia, Costa Rica and Holland. When she wasn't traveling the world, Thea liked reading, watching Fox News, gardening, spending time with her book club friends, as well as her friends the "Coffee Ladies". Thea loved cats and dogs and faithfully supported the Muscatine County Humane Society. Thea will be dearly missed by her two children, Ron (Laura) Klerk de Reus II of Wilton and Mary (Scott) Rose of Urbana, Illinois; four grandchildren, Ronald (Jennifer) Klerk de Reus III, Jason (Jessica) Klerk de Reus, Katie (Kurtis) Petersen, and Kelly Rose; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Lenie Van Leem of Schiedam, Netherlands; one niece; and one nephew. Thea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and one brother-in-law, Max Van Leem.
