Theodora Merle Ficker
Help us celebrate Theodora! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Theodora.
Merle Ficker was born on September 23, 1938 and passed on March 8, 2022. We are saddened by the loss, but happy as we celebrate her life and all she offered. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's from the University of Florida. She worked as an English Professor and Dean but found her love as a children's librarian. She fostered a love of reading for thousands of children as she found books special for each child. She traveled where her husband's jobs led her and made adventures in NY, FL, VA, and AL before retiring to NC to be near her children and grandchildren. She was a true example of one who put others first and a fighter for the underdog. She loved her family unconditionally, and had a faith that exemplified St Francis' lesson of spreading the gospel.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Victor Ficker; her children, Ellen (John) Parrish, Celene (Eric) Little, and John (Ericka) Ficker; her eleven grandchildren, Travis (Brittany), Victor, Ella, Elizabeth, Faith, Thomas, Emma, Julianne, Addison, Elyse, and Jona; one great grandson, Bennett; and sister Glynn Ellen Adams. She is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin David and Gertrude Skinner and brother David Skinner. A mass of remembrance will take place on Monday, March 14th at 1:00 pm at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Mint Hill, NC followed by internment at 3:30 pm at Forest Lawn East in Weddington, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Shriners Foundation or Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
