Noted surgeon and Cheyenne native, Dr. Terry Happel, 83, of Chandler, Ariz., passed away July 15 after a short illness at Chandler Regional Hospital.
He was born July 20,1938, in Hebron, Nebr., to Suzanne and John Happel. The family moved to Cheyenne in 1942 where Terry was a star athlete.
Dr. Happel studied pre-med at the University of Iowa and University of Wyoming, where he was a member of their basketball teams.
Terry graduated near the top of his class in medical school and assisted in the first-ever liver transplant.
He served in the Navy as a flight surgeon at Chu Lai Air Base, Vietnam.
Survivors include daughters, Dana Tate, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; Tracie Trimarco, Loveland. Colo.; grandchildren, Alexis Richards, Chandler, Ariz.; Austin McGlumphy, Tempe, Ariz.; Anthony, Taylor and Mackenzie Trimarco, all from Loveland, Colo.; and six great grandchildren.
