Help us celebrate Terrance! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Terrance.
Terrance Tarrelle Owens was born in Franklin, VA, on December 16, 1995, to Cheryl Owens and William “Mann” Turner. He grew up on Sykes Drive in Drewyville, VA, and Washington Street in Emporia, VA. He passed away suddenly on May 18, 2022.
Terrance attended Capron Elementary School, Greensville County Public Schools, Southside Virginia Community College, and Shippers’ Choice CDL Training School. He graduated from Greensville County High School in 2014 and obtained his CDL in 2020.
He knew how to make money at a young age. He raked the neighbors’ leaves and sold candy at school. His first job in high school was at McDonald’s. Some may say “he worked there before he worked there” because McDonald’s was his favorite restaurant as a child. He always rode his bike to McDonald's to get “two hamburger patties in a box, with only ketchup.”
After high school, he worked several jobs, including Curtis Contracting, Food Lion, FedEx, Rent-a-Center, Walmart, and Greensville Correctional Center. After he got his CDL, he drove trucks for Western Express and US Express. At the time of death, he was preparing to drive for J.D. Legacy Trucking.
As a young child, Terrance was affectionately known by his family as Little Bill, Terrance-a-boogie, and T-Mann. He made up a song for his mother, “Ma, Ma, Ma I love you!” He collected pennies, and his sisters often had him do their chores or go to McDonald’s in exchange for pennies. He loved to wrap his coins and cash them in at the bank.
As a teen and adult, Terrance was affectionately known as T, T.O., and T-Bird. He loved wrestling with his sisters as a teen. He had a point to prove—that he was stronger than them even though he was the youngest. Terrance loved sports and pets. He was a die-hard Saints fan. He played baseball for Emporia Greensville Recreational Association (EGRA) and Greensville County High School. He had several dogs and fish throughout his life. He had a funeral for each of his pets. His dog, Smokey, survived him.
Terrance was full of energy and knew how to make people laugh. Most people describe him as “a sweet soul, kind, and goofy.” He was known to talk trash and crack jokes. His favorite foods were fried shrimp, bacon, steak, pizza, and mac & cheese. He also loved root beer and his mama’s fried chicken—as long as it was hot out of the grease! His favorite shows were “First 48” and “All American.” He spent much of his time working, hanging out with his friends, driving around, going to the beach, and sleeping as if he had just worked a 12-hour shift.
Terrance was preceded in death by his great maternal grandparents, Richard and Lucy Owens and Wyatt and Letha Hines; maternal grandparents, Howard and Inez “Pat” Owens; paternal grandfathers, William Johnson and John Carson; maternal aunt, Patricia Mason (Steve); and paternal uncle, Williams “Punchy” Rawlings (Mary).
He leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Cheryl Owens (Eddie) and William “Mann” Turner (Tina); his siblings: Katisha Rawls (Sidney “Trey”), Tamekia Owens, and Tremaine Bryant; his paternal grandmother Rosa Carson his godsister, Tanyla Evans; his nieces and nephews: Jayden Owens, Amiyah Rawls, Sidney Rawls IV, and Arihanna Bryant; maternal aunts and uncles: Dwayne Owens (Tasha), Keith Owens, Leander “Bally” Griffin (Veronica), Nicole Robinson, Andrea Robinson, Joe Robinson, and Howard Owens, Jr.; paternal aunts and uncles: Felecia Edwards (Toby), Theresa Glover (Gerald), Sandra Barley, Quentin Turner, Roy Carson, Danny Carson (Wilma), and Ronnie Carson (Tracey); a special friend, Ja’meshia Peterson; and a host of loving great aunts, great uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
