Teresa Josephine (Mees) Lasnier, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Stormont-Vail Hospital at the age of 90. She was born in 1929 in Seneca, KS, to Joseph & Josephine. The family later moved to Manhattan, KS. She lived through the Great Depression, Dust Bowl, World War II and the Flood of 1951. Despite being raised in these adverse conditions, Teresa never felt deprived. She received a penmanship award in grade school and her script remained beautiful even in her last weeks. Teresa attended Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science (K-State) and was a Chi Omega. She graduated with degrees in Art & Home Economics. Always poised and beautiful, Teresa participated in the Beauty Queen float. Teresa taught 7th grade in Marion, KS, returning to Manhattan when her father died. She worked at the Manhattan Public Library, where she later met the love of her life, Don, an avid reader. He often checked out books and finally, worked up the nerve to, "check out" the Librarian and going out for a hamburger. The overdue fine for the Librarian has never been paid.
Inspired by Don and Teresa's love, she leaves behind her beloved children, Anne Martinez (Richard), Charles (Janet), Chris (Marcia), Joe (Denise) and Mark; eight grandchildren, Anthony, Lauri and Grace Martinez, Lisa Martinez Sterling (Nathan), Matthew, Michael, Thomas, and Sarah Lasnier, and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Lilah Sterling. Teresa will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 23 at 11:00 A.M. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Topeka Rescue Mission or the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church Ministry to the Aging and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
