Tecla passed away peacefully at home with her children by her side on February 2, 2021 at age 76. Even as she lived the last three years with ALS, she lived as she always had - in the moment, forever finding joy in the beauty of day-to-day life and her deep connections with friends and community.
Tecla was a passionate believer in our need to preserve the natural world, to accept and welcome people of all backgrounds, and the importance of always showing compassion toward children. She was a strong believer in the power of love to connect people, and drew great joy in bringing out the natural artist she saw in all kids.
Tecla was born in Chicago, then spent her childhood in California before migrating to New England in her early 20s. Her varied careers had a common thread of working with and for her fellow community members: completing nursing school in Massachusetts, working as an audiologist, and a long career as an elementary school art teacher in several New Hampshire school districts. She also believed deeply in volunteer work: supporting local gardening clubs, art galleries, educational groups, political candidates, and the many efforts of her treasured church community.
Tecla is survived by her children Amy Ledwell (Bob Ledwell) and Jon Mires (Emily Corwin), grandsons Jack Ledwell, Cole Mires, and Lane Mires, her sister Sara Millman, and her beloved cat Fiona.
A celebration of life will be live streamed via Zoom Wednesday February 10 at 2pm. Details are available on the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home website at newtonbartlett.com or by calling 603-863-2113.
