Born to Paul and Josephine Skorupa July 9, 1922, in Chicago, died June 20, 2019, in Madison, WI. She was raised near Phelps, Wisconsin, and in West Allis, Wisconsin, in a family of seven children. She attended St. Aloysius Parish and school and graduated from West Allis Central High in 1940. Sylvia went to work at the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company where she met her husband, Otis Johnston. They married in 1948 and were married 45 years before Otis's death.
Sylvia worked in the home raising two boys and returned to work outside the home at The Home for Aging Lutherans as a nurse's aide. She brought the same love and care to the residents there that she had for her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Otis Johnston, and siblings Caroline Skorupa, Paul Skorupa, Joe Skorupa (Marcie), Ted Skorupa, Al Skorupa (June) and Ed Skorupa (Betty). Also preceded by special friends Marie Frank and Ron Valentine Schwartz.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Patty) and David Johnston (Annika), and grandson Jeffrey Johnston (Rebecca).
Also survived by goddaughters Debbie Taylor (Tom) and Anne Smith (Mark) and godson Chuck Beaudry (Bruce), nieces Kathy Kasinski (Tom) and Carol Lesperance (Terry); nephews Joseph Skorupa (Maria), John Skorupa and Ted Skorupa (Erin). Also many grand nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday June 29th at St. Pius X Church, 2506 N. Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa, followed by mass and burial.
