Sylvia Garcia Onderko, a lifelong resident of Tampa, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 24, 2023. She was born on November 27, 1935, and graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1953. Sylvia went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from The University of Tampa. She found her home working at Egypt Lake Elementary, where she spent thirty years before retiring. To all that knew her, Sylvia was the life of the party, had a glowing smile, and a mischievous sense of humor. She also was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to the end. Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Rose Garcia. She is survived by her brother, Joe Garcia Jr., her son, Rick Onderko, and her daughter, Terry Governale. Sylvia was a loving grandmother to Parker, Jenna, Carson, Heather Pilarczyk (Mark), Lauren, and Aylssa Gonzalez (Brian), and a great-grandmother to Knox, Nash, and Leo. The honorary pallbearers are "The Golden Girls", Nora Lamb, Sylvia Reina, Mary Perrone, Mercy Canella, Antoinette Pullara, Cynthia Dyal, and Prudy Greco. Sylvia will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
