Sylvia Teagle Forsythe of Charlotte passed away on January 28, 2021 at Matthews Glen (Plantation Estates). She was born on March 2, 1941 in Monroe, NC and was the only child of the late Thelma H. and Charles T. Teagle, Jr.
She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Appalachian State University and taught French and English in North Carolina before moving to California to work as a document's acquisitions specialist at UCLA. In 1970 she became editor and assistant to the chief executive officer of the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington, DC. Years later Sylvia lived in Portland, Oregon and edited publications for the Oregon Education Association. She subsequently returned to Washington, DC where she devoted many years as a senior publications officer for the Fulbright Scholar Program.
In 1998 she moved to Charlotte to care for her ailing mother. Sylvia also did free-lance editing for several local non-profits. After her mother's death, she returned to work as a sales associate at both The Buttercup and Ballantyne Resort Gift Shop.
Sylvia will be remembered for more than her professional work.
She was grounded in her faith from early childhood and lived a life of service, kindness, and love. She was a member and active volunteer at Myers Park United Methodist Church.
She had exquisite taste in the d?cor of her home which was kept picture-perfect. She always had current issues of home and garden magazines stacked neatly on end tables, with Southern Living frequently on top. She believed that fresh flowers were essential in a home.
She also had a flair for fashion. Black was her preferred color and pearls were her favorite adornment.
She had a lifelong passion for the arts and was a member of the Charlotte Symphony Guild where she served as editor of the Guild's newsletter.
She loved anything relating to France and cherished her many memories from visits there.
She was a people-oriented person who was interested in the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Close relatives of special note are Owen Parker (Stacie)and children, Ray and Gracie; Alissa Parker Isaacs (Kevin) and children, Judd and Abigail; Nancy Helms (Robert) and daughter, Julie.
Sylvia Teagle Forsythe: a gifted, gentle, and loving person who brought goodness into this world. She will be profoundly missed.
