Sylvia Anne Perry Close, 87, died at home in Wilmington, NC on December 12, 2021 of congestive heart failure.
She was born in Columbus, Nebraska on May 23, 1934 to Calvin and Florence Perry. With three brothers and one sister. Sylvia graduated high school, married the love of her life, and had five children in Morris, Illinois.
She worked on the line and drove a fork lift at the Federal Paper Mill in Morris, Illinois. Sylvia transferred to Elkhart, Indiana, and then finished her career at the 23rd Street plant in Wilmington, NC.
Sylvia was a long time member of the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary's in Wilmington, NC.
She is survived by four children, James (Beth) Close of Seneca, IL, Laurie (Tim) Hall of Wilmington, NC, Debbie (John) Reay of Holly Ridge, NC, and Amy (Robert) Lem of Rocky Point, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Jan Carlson, Richard Close, Jason Barz, Craig Barz, Todd Hall, Jennie Skaggs, Melissa Lewis, Stephanie Nelson, Kathleen Dallas-Crowell, Mandy Hall, Calvin Justus, Anastacia Howell, and James Close. Sylvia has twenty-four great-grandchildren that were the light of her life and brightened every day of her life.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Close, after 49 years of marriage; her oldest son, Richard; her parents, Calvin and Florence Perry; brothers, Gene and John Perry; and her granddaughter, Angela Pinder. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Basilica Shrine of St Mary in Wilmington, NC with burial at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at: andrewsmortuary.com
