Sydney Vaughn Waghorne joined our Heavenly Father on November 17, 2017. Sydney was born October 30, 1930 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Sydney James and Jessie Vaughn. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Midwestern University. While in school, he worked at Humphrey's Printing which was co-founded by his father. Syd married his high school sweetheart, Jacque Lebus. Together they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
During his paper distribution career he worked briefly in Houston and in 1958 Syd and Jacque moved their family to Atlanta so Syd could become Division Manager of the Southeast Division for Roosevelt Paper Company. In 1960, he accepted and transferred to Chicago to become Midwest Divisional Manger. In 1964 he was transferred to Dallas and was appointed Vice President of the Southwest Division. He was the youngest Vice President of the company's 64 year history.
In 1976 he was the founder and President of Paper Tech, Inc. He was a member of the National Paper Trade Association and the National Printers Association. After selling Paper Tech to Clausen Papertronics out of Essen Germany at age 58 he retired and in 1990 Syd and Jacque moved to Lake Kiowa. He became an enthusiastic golfer at their championship golf course and also enjoyed boating and water sports.
They enjoyed traveling with their 3 grandchildren during summer breaks to dude ranches, several Caribbean cruises, Atlantis, Las Vegas, Disney World and the Big Red Boat cruise. Syd and Jacque enjoyed traveling to more than 33 countries and 38 States with their family and friends. While in Vail and Steamboat, Colorado, he became very interested in hot air ballooning.
He served as Chairman of the Stewardship Committee of Whaley United Methodist Church. Served as a Division Leader at the Cooke County United Way and was awarded Cook County Division Leader of the year award. He served several years as a director of the North Texas Memorial Hospital Foundation. He founded two popular men's social groups. With the help of the late Floyd Copeland and the late Don Gilmore, he founded the Romeo Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). The only by-laws were fun, fellowship, laughter and friendship.
Sydney was preceded in death by his father Sydney Waghorne, his mother Jessie Vaughn Waghorne and his brother Bernard Waghorne. He is survived by his loving wife, Jacquelyn; children, John and his wife Diane, Kim Robason and James; three grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley Collette and David; his brother Al and his wife Kay; his sister Cherry Phillips; his sister in law Betty; daughter in law Regina Guaray; and many nephews and nieces.
