Suzanne Weatherley Moore died peacefully following a period of declining strength on June 8, 2021 at her home in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina surrounded by her husband and children.
Mrs. Moore was born in Tarrytown, New York, the daughter of John and Ruth Weatherley. A 1957 graduate of New Milford High School in Connecticut and 1961 of the University of Connecticut (B.A.). In 1960 she married Donald S. Moore of New Milford, CT. Suzanne grew up in Bridgewater, CT, and settled first in Canton, CT with her husband followed by a move to Port Clyde, ME in 1970 to raise their family. She worked a variety of jobs and prior to her retirement was an Administrative Assistant for the University of Maine, Thomaston. Suzanne was also a long-time member and volunteer of Jackson Memorial Library, Tenants Harbor ME.
Suzanne spent much of her time outdoors in Port Clyde, ME and Hilton Head Island, SC where she and Don began spending their winters in 2008, observing the natural world and gardening. She also enjoyed reading, music, travel, visiting with friends and was an accomplished knitter. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family.
Pre-deceased by her parents, brother John S. Weatherley, Jr. and sister Joan Benham, Suzanne is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald S. Moore; her sister, Susan Hammond of Mystic, CT; Son: Jonathan Moore and wife Lynda of Canterbury, NH; Daughter: Leslie Hupper and husband Alan of Hilton Head Island, SC and Port Clyde, ME; and her 5 beloved grandchildren; Granddaughters: Katherine Moore and her partner Alan Tyson of Des Moines, IA, and Sara Moore of Vancouver, BC; Grandsons: Timothy Crockett and wife Tami Pissott of Ladson, SC, Travis Crockett and wife Karina of Nantucket Island, MA and Christopher Moore of Penacook, NH. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Braxton Buoniconti of Ladson, SC as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Suzanne's caregivers and her hospice nurse these past few months. As per Suzanne's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. We will honor and celebrate her life privately at a later date.
