Suzanne (Sue) Pullon Fitch passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at home.
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Speech at the University of Michigan--Ann Arbor and completed her Ph.D. course work in American Culture there. Sue taught rhetoric courses in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University for 31 years. In 1997 Sue coauthored the book Sojourner Truth as Orator: Wit, Story, and Song and the article "The Rhetorical Construction of Sojourner Truth," which won the 2002 Rose B. Johnson Award for being the most outstanding article in the Southern Communication Journal. In addition, she authored book chapters and articles. Upon her retirement from Texas State in 1998, she was named Associate Professor Emerita.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, John William Fitch III; her sister, Joanne Andrews, of Tequesta, Florida; her brother, Peter Pullon, of Jupiter, Florida; and other family members.
Sue and John owned Fitch & Fitch Antiques and enjoyed participating in antique shows. They also enjoyed travelling the United States and abroad, often on small ships. Sue will be missed by her family, friends, and former colleagues. No services are scheduled.
