Susan N. (Phalen) VanDenburgh, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, April 22, 2023. Born in Kingston on March 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna (Yearsly) Phalen.
Susan loved to dance as a teen and was in many dance recitals. She liked to share that she danced on Broadway, which was the Broadway Theater in Kingston. She then started synchronized swimming at the Troy YMCA and enjoyed performing at Crooked Lake and other area pools. Susan volunteered with the Girl Scouts and loved to sew and garden. After moving to Latham, Susan enjoyed neighborly activities, like arts and crafts and playing cards with her neighbors whom she and Nelson Sr. became close friends with over the years. They also loved to travel, which included the local casinos, Las Vegas, and a special cruise with friends. Their favorite place to travel to was Wells Beach, Maine and very rarely missed a year with family and friends.
Susan enjoyed the Johnny Carson show, Wheel of Fortune, Ellen and could not resist filling out the Publishing Clearing House mail to someday win and buy everything her family would ever need. Susan loved doing puzzles and crossword puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles. Susan did everything in her power to "Always Make Things Right" with everyone she interacted with. She spoiled her grandchildren and nothing was more important than her family.
Susan is survived by her 4 children; Deborah A. (Robert Sr.) Boswell of Malta, Sandra L. VanDenburgh of Clifton Park, Diane S. (Neil) Leach of Cohoes and Nelson G. (Kari) VanDenburgh, Jr. of Latham, her 9 grandchildren; Robert Boswell, Jr., Westly Boswell, Jason Sr. and Tyler Sowek, Sarah and Kristen Leach, and Emily, Nelson III and Jack VanDenburgh, her 3 great-grandchildren; Chloe Boswell, Jason Sowek, Jr., and Aila Mae Boswell, her sisters Barbara Vanderheyden and Lynda Zeitlin, and by several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dear husband Nelson G. VanDenburgh, Sr., who passed from this life in 2014, and by two siblings, John Phalen, Jr. and Patricia Hilt.
