Susan M. "Sue" Burgmaier, loving wife, mother of two and stay-at-home mom, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, April 22.
She was 81 and had been in declining health for several months. Sue is survived by her husband, James F. "Jim" Burgmaier, childhood sweetheart. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Paul and Corabelle Smith. Sue was a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame Academy.
Sue was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed that lifestyle. She delighted in her children and was involved in the many aspects of their lives, not the least of which was being an active Den Mother when her children were of that age. She also helped them deliver newspapers in the wintertime. She very much enjoyed that time in her life taking care of their home, while her husband finished school and pursued his career.
Sue and her husband lived in Toledo for 43 years where they were members of Valleywood Golf Club. She became very active in the Women's Golf Association, eventually becoming president of the organization.
After moving to Texas, they became members of Kingwood Country Club. Sue continued to be very active in the Women's Golf Association, eventually becoming President there.
Upon Jim's retirement, they decided that they had had enough of Houston traffic and summer heat. They loaded up the van and moved back North to Lexington, the home of their one son, Mark and his family. There they enjoyed watching the grandkids grow up. Sue and Jim also welcomed their first great granddaughter in 2021.
While enjoying retirement living, they traveled to Europe on a couple of occasions to sightsee and play golf. The highlight was playing the fame St. Andrews Old Course. They also enjoyed spending wintertime in Florida, visiting their other son, Mike, and staying in Ft. Meyers, visiting with their close friends from Toledo.
As well as her husband, Jim, Sue is survived by two sons, Mike (Debbie), of South Pasadena, Florida, and Mark (Michelle) of Lexington. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kasey Burgmaier, Mallory (Brandon) Bentley, Matthew (Olivia) Burgmaier, and one great grandchild, Layne Burgmaier.
There will be a private ceremony at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, with internment at Calvery Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to UK Markey Cancer Center or the charity of your choice.
Rest in Peace Sue, you will be missed dearly.
