Susan "Sue" Jean Sherwood, 62, passed away at 2:37pm Monday, November 8, 2021 after a sudden illness.
Susan was born on March 20, 1959 in Niles, MI to Howard and Norma (Bedell) Sherwood. Sue graduated from Niles High School in 1977, attended Michigan State University and graduated from Southwestern Michigan School of Nursing with her RN degree.
She was employed by the Van Buren / Cass Districts Health Department as a public health nurse. She was diligent in the fight against COVID, giving numerous immunizations to the public. Sue previously worked as an ICU Nurse at Pawating Hospital in Niles and SICU Nurse at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Indiana. She has also previously done home care nursing for various agencies. Sue has also volunteered for multiple entities including the Berrien County Youth Fair, Niles FFA Alumni, and Cass County Sheriff Mounted Division.
Sue has an immerse love for all animals especially her beloved horses Mac, Luke and Hawk and fur babies, Athena, Bella, and Ruger. She loved having kids over to teach them about horses and allowing them to ride hers. Sue was a fun loving person whether it be camping, family gatherings, horseback riding, or getting together with friends. She had a multitude of friends including some since kindergarten. Several of her former patients became personal friends after she cared for them.
Surviving are her husband Stephen Gruber, sister Barbara (Robert) Passig , brother Tim (Mitzi) Sherwood, nephews Levi Passig, Ryan (Angie) Sherwood and Adam Passig, niece Brittney (Matt) Posten, great-niece Amelia Sherwood and another niece Baby Posten, expected in April 2022. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws Steve and Lillian Gruber.
Since Sue contracted COVID from attending a funeral, the family doesn't want to have a large gathering to put others in danger, instead they will gather privately to celebrate her life. The service can be viewed on You Tube by searching for Mapleview Church-Niles at 10am on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
