Susan Eileen Peregoy, 61, of Arnold, Maryland, died at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown on October 30, 2021, the day before the holiday that she so dearly loved. She had been courageously dealing with the effects of glioblastoma since the spring of 2020.
A beloved and loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Sue was born in Baltimore, MD, on September 16, 1960. She was the daughter of the late Anna Marie (Collins) and Chester Arthur Peregoy III and the second youngest of five children. As the only girl, she lovingly but quite firmly always let her siblings know who was boss.
Sue taught Family and Consumer Science at Severn River Middle School for nearly twenty-five years, and, more recently, at Annapolis High School, where her father attended and later taught. She graduated from Severna Park High School in 1978, then earned a bachelor's degree in Dietetics at the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1983. She worked in the food service industry for several years before turning to teaching. She earned a Master's in Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2002 and National Board Certification in 2011. Over the years, Sue taught hundreds of students how to sew, manage their finances, eat healthily, and cook everything from chocolate chip cookies to tacos?in addition to writing curriculum and teaching a variety of summer programs.
A gifted seamstress, Sue made a variety of gifts for family and friends, including quilts, purses, wall hangings, table runners, and more. She immensely enjoyed her circle of quilting friends, and especially loved attending numerous retreats and workshops with her cousin, Irene Hoffert Crofford. She was also a talented cook, making peanut brittle, fruit preserves, and piccalilli to share, and she regularly called on her eager nieces and nephews to help her make cakes and cookies. Sue loved to keep busy, so in addition to teaching, she worked at Williams Sonoma, which allowed her to nicely outfit her kitchen.
When Sue received her dire diagnosis, her four brothers and their families rallied for months to take care of her every need. Sue was never one to suffer fools wisely, and when her brain tumor robbed her of her ability to find the words she wanted, she used her eyes and facial expressions to let everyone know exactly what she thought.
She is survived by her brothers: Robert A. Peregoy (Amy) of Waldorf; Chris Peregoy of Baltimore; Jim Peregoy (Alice Cary) of Groton, MA; and Ken Peregoy (Cherylin Bennek) of Worton. Survivors also include her beloved nieces and nephews: Kevin and Laura Peregoy of Waldorf; Will, Martha, and Cary Peregoy of Boston, MA; and Liam, Sam, Nate, and Charlie Peregoy of Worton.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm at Barranco Severna Park Funeral Home & Cremation Care, P.A. 495 Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 19, at 11:00 am at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis. Interment will follow at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd., Annapolis.
