Susan Mueller (Whitley), 77, of Pawleys Island, S.C. passed away peacefully on January 29, 2022. She was predeceased by her father, Edward Whitley, and her mother Miriam Whitley.
Susan was the beloved wife of James Mueller of Pawleys Island, S.C., devoted mother of Douglas Lemberg of Toms River, N.J., and his wife, Cheryl, loving sister to Priscilla Whitley-Matthews of Atlanta, loving aunt to Aurora Matthews-Stolz of Atlanta, and super-mom to her dog Jake.
Susan graduated from Pascack Valley High School in 1962. After college in Virginia, she worked at ABC Network for sportscaster, Howard Cosell. As Mr. Cosell's right-hand gal, she attended various high-profile sporting events and was in the company of many of the sporting greats of that era. This was a job she loved, and she and Mr. Cosell remained in touch until his death.
While her son was growing up Susan returned to college obtaining an LPN degree. She took care of all the people she knew, spending many years as a nurse in residential facilities in northern New Jersey. Her kindness and devotion to her family, friends, and life-long pets, will be missed.
After growing up in Westwood and Montvale, N.J., Susan spent most of her adult years residing in Westwood before moving south. Among her most cherished memories included her years with the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, her time as co-President of the Westwood New Jersey Heritage Society, many trips to the theater and opera in New York City, and in later years, enjoying life as a retiree in South Carolina.
Known for her quick wit and wicked sense of humor, her knowledge of classical music and her love for her husband, son, and his wife, she is remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and aunt.
A memorial service will be held at Becker's Funeral Home in Westwood, N.J. at a later date, which will appear on their website.
Her family asks that contributions can be made in her honor to All Four Paws 708 Petigru Drive, Pawleys Island, SC 29585 or to The Westwood Heritage Society, PO Box 611, Westwood, NJ 07675-0611
