Susan Page Hornaday, 59, Raleigh resident, beloved daughter, sister and aunt passed away with her family by her side on May 10, 2021, at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC after a brief illness. She was born on November 5, 1961 in Sanford, NC, daughter of the late Norman Page Hornaday and Jeane Myers Hornaday.
Susan attended Lee County High School in Sanford, NC and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her BA in Education and Social Studies. After college, Susan went on to teach social studies in NC and VA and later worked developing educational curriculums and materials. During her career in education, her goal was to spark an interest of history and the arts in young folks.
Susan was a lifelong Tar Heel and UNC sports fan, closely following the basketball, football, and baseball teams. There was nothing more appealing than enjoying an afternoon in Chapel Hill rooting on her beloved Tar Heels.
Susan will be remembered as a generous, kind, and funny sister, aunt, and friend. Aside from watching sports, she was an avid reader. Historical and biographical books were among her
She is survived by her sister Rebecca Worth Hornaday and brother, N. Page Hornaday, Jr and wife, Lynne Spooner Hornaday, all of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her nephews, Carter Page Hornaday and Parker Myers Hornaday who were very dear and special to her. In addition, she is survived by her aunt, Margie Myers of Hallsville, Texas and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held at the Davidson Chapel at White Memorial Presbyterian Church 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC on Saturday May 15th at 11 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Graveside service will be at Buffalo Cemetery 1130 Fire Tower Road, Sanford, NC on Saturday May 15th at 2 pm and will also receive friends following the graveside service.
