Susan Shetley Davis (Suzi), 73, of Beaufort, S.C. died Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at MUSC in Charleston after a short illness.
Suzi was born in Laurens, S.C. on August 5, 1948. She grew up in Greenville, S.C. and received her Bachelor's from The University Of South Carolina. In 1976, she moved to Beaufort where her two girls were born and raised and she became a much involved member of the community. Over her life, she was a 45 year member of The Parish Church of Saint Helena. There she taught children's Sunday school, was actively involved in the ECW, coordinator of church religious activities and helped with the annual bazaar. She is a past member of The Palmetto Garden Club, The Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club and The Dataw Club. She served as a Beaufort Welcome Wagon host, First Lady of the Beaufort Water Festival and co-chair of the first Beaufort Memorial Hospital Ball. Throughout her life, Suzi loved jobs where she could talk with people and greet friends. She ran the Historic Beaufort Foundation Gift Shop, Beaufort Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, spent 10 years working with friends at Rossignol's and taught for many years in Beaufort County Schools. She loved playing bridge with friends, a good luncheon and truly never met a stranger. Suzi was a beloved mother to her two daughters and absolutely adored by her four grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Carrie Castronova (John) and their 3 girls Collins (9), Blair (8) and Elliott (2) of Auckland, New Zealand, and Jennifer Davis and son Kane Thorp (22) of Saint Simons Island, GA. Sisters Judith Hitch (Bob) of Dallas, TX and Cathy Gowan (Murray) of Greenville, S.C. She also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents Rhoten Shetley and Catherine Headley Shetley, as well as siblings Rip Shetley, Rita Stringfellow and Diane Altman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to CAPA, P.O. Box 531, Beaufort, S.C. 29901 or The Parish Church of St. Helena, P.O. Box 1043, Beaufort, S.C. 29901. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
