Susan Edna Barutt, age 61 of Deerwood died on September 8, 2023 at Essentia St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. She was born in Faribault, MN on October 24, 1961 to Orville and Elizabeth (Hough) Barsness. Susan married James Barutt on April 13, 1991 in Burnsville. She was a former Elementary Teacher serving St. Francis Catholic School in Brainerd and the Crosby-Ironton School District. Susan was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby and former Director of the "Spirit of Life" and the youth choirs, a former Christmas Cantata Choir member and was an avid quilter.
Susan is survived by her husband, James; her son, Corey (Britany) Barutt of Ironton, her daughter, Ashley (AJ) Gross of Minneapolis; one brother, Bill (Susan) Barsness of Kenyon; one sister, Keri Mader of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.
Preceding Susan in death are her parents.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Crosby. Burial will be at the Scandia Cemetery in Deerwood. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. mass at the church.
