SURCY LEE PEOPLES III
MARCH 13, 1973 - JULY 29, 2022
Surcy Lee Peoples III went to Heaven to be with his father and grandparents July29, 2022. Funeral services will be held in Amarillo, Texas and in Conroe Texas.
The Amarillo Celebration of Life will be at the Schooler Funeral Home Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 4pm to 8 pm. The family wants everyone to come and share their funny "Surcy Stories" while enjoying food and beverages.
The Conroe Celebration of Life will be Monday August 8, 2022. A brief graveside service will be at Copeland Chapel Cemetery at 10 am. Surcy will rest by his father and grandparents. The Celebration of Life will follow at Metcalf Funeral Home at 11:30 am. The family asks all of his Conroe family and friends to tell their funny "Surcy Stories" while sharing lunch.
Surcy was born March 13, 1973, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Conroe Texas to Surcy Lee Peoples Jr and Frances Knight Peoples
Surcy loved activity. He played soccer and T-ball. He took dance, tumbling, tap, jazz dance and acting lessons. He showed projects in 4-H.
Surcy attended Rice Elementary, Reeves Intermediate, Travis Jr. High and Conroe High School.
Surcy was the Center for football in junior high and high school. He played basketball and baseball one year at CHS. He was a part of the tract team for four years.
Surcy was an honor student graduating in the top five percent of his class. He was in the National Honor Society. He was a member of the Conroe FFA all four years. He served as Advisor officer his Junior year and as President his Senior year. He was a area officer his senior year. Surcy won awards in Agriculture including Computers, judging of cattle, horses, poultry, and swine. He won awards in public speaking. He was awarded Outstanding Vocational Student and Outstanding FFA Student at Conroe High School. He received his Chapter, Lone Star and American Farmer Degrees.
Surcy showed Commercial Steers and chickens at the Montgomery County Fair. He won Reserve Champion with his Commercial steers his junior year and Grand Champion his senior year. He won Reserve Champion Cake Decorating and Reserve Champion with an African Violet in Horticulture. He volunteered in every event at the fair. At the age of 6-8 he and his best friend Michael Guinn brought their red wagons to help move Senior Citizen projects from the parking lot to the event area.
He showed Commercial Steers at the Houston Livestock Show. He won a Houston Livestock Show Scholarship, a Montgomery County Scholarship, The Montgomery County A&M Scholarship, local, regional, area and state Scholarships.
Surcy attended Texas A&M University in College Station. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Agriculture.
Surcy began his career at Nebraska Cattlemen Association. He authored articles for their publications and did a daily farm radio show. He worked as Director of Commercial Marketing for the American Gelbvieh Association in Denver. He began work at Cactus Feeders in 2000. He started his own Company J2 Enterprises LLC in 2019 and he was Director of Operations for Central Stockyards until his death.
Surcy was a Boy Scout and a member of the First Baptist Church Conroe. He served as President of the Potter County Livestock Show and President of the Randall County Junior Livestock Show. He was the rowdy front man at the Randall County Show Auction. He helped young people with their projects and always encouraged them win or lose.
Surcy married Heather Underwood in 2000. His pride and joy in his life was his son Surcy Lee People IV, whom he worshiped. He told everyone his son was a perfect little man. He called him the man-child. He joked he was perfect like his dad. He was a man of service and kindness to his neighbors and community.
He served as President of the Randall County Junior Livestock Show and the Potter County Livestock Show. He supported the Canyon FFA and Barbecue Team, WT Ag Days, and Emi's Color Shoot. He was divorced.
In 2020 Surcy reconnected with a former A&M Ag friend. They began a friendship that became romantic. He married the love of his life Amy Blankenship Hernandez May 2022.
He is preceded into Heaven by his father Surcy Lee Peoples, Jr and his grandparents: Surcy Lee Peoples Sr and wife Benita; Rev. Walter Woodrow Knight and wife Feby Mae.
He is survived by his son Surcy Lee Peoples IV, his wife Amy Peoples, and his mother Frances Knight Peoples, his bonus son Christian Hernandez, his bonus daughter Maria Hernandez as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Surcy was a bright light that burned out too quickly. He was bigger than life itself. He had a big heart of gold, an outstanding personality, and was a happy heart. He brought love, laughter, and happiness to all he encountered. God needed someone to make him laugh, so he chose Surcy Lee Peoples III to join him in Heaven.
