Hung, Sufenne Huang (Sue) - of Knoxville, peacefully passed away at home on March 11, 2024. She was born November 2, 1934 in Taishan, China, finished college in Taiwan in 1957, and came to the U.S. in 1957 to pursue graduate studies at Teachers College of Columbia University. She married James C. Hung (deceased) and together they settled in Knoxville and raised three sons here. She was an active member of Church Street United Methodist Church; frequently hiked the Smoky Mountains with the Wednesday group of hikers; participated in the Evergreen group of Knoxville Chinese Christian Church; traveled the world and loved gardening. She is survived by her three sons: John (wife Diana deceased), Samuel, Stephen (wife Trudy); four grandchildren: Aaron (Sarah), Emily (McVay), Zachary (Jessica), Abigail; four great-grandchildren, James, Rosalyn, Julia and Gloria (with two more on the way); sister May and brother Paul (Sharon). She was preceded by her husband James; parents Siang-Hu Huang and Minyuh Yu; and brother Samuel (Phoebe). The memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, visitation with family preceding the service at 10:00 a.m. and the service starting at 11:00 a.m. at Church Street United Methodist Church. The family requests that guests dress comfortably. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to two organizations close to Sue's favorite activities, the Church Street UMC Soup Kitchen Ministry (https://churchstreetumc.org/soup-kitchen/), and Friends of the Smokies (www.friendsofthesmokies.org).
