SueAnn F. Otterdahl was born on April 15, 1935 in Hendricks, MN, the daughter of Lloyd and Sylvia (Froiland) Otterdahl. She spent her early years growing up in Minneapolis, MN before the family moved to Astoria, SD, and operated the local grocery store. She attended Astoria Public School and graduated from Astoria High School in 1953. She, then attended Augustana for one year before she met and was later married to Martin Gorder on November 6, 1954, in Astoria. The couple began farming near Estelline. Throughout the years, Sue raised their children, Cindy and Mike, helped Martin on the farm and kept the house. In 1992, the couple moved into Estelline.
Sue was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline and was very active in the church throughout her life. In her younger years she participated in many Extension functions. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers. She was very busy with her hands by sewing, cross-stitching, needle point and Swedish weaving. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker and was known for her Lefsa, a tradition she passed onto her granddaughter. Sue liked to travel and would spend winters in Texas with Martin.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Cindy (Terry) Sundvold of Brandon, SD and Mike (Ann) Gorder of Estelline, SD; four grandchildren, Marne (Tyler) Fleming, Hilary (Austin) Suther, Max (Danielle) Gorder and Wyatt Sundvold (special friend, Jacey Hanssen) and four great grandchildren.
