Sue Stancil Morris, 83, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Sue was born in Durham, North Carolina on September 17, 1939 to the late David E. Stancil and the late Lola Helms Stancil. She was the wife of the late Herman Martin "Marty" Morris, Jr. for 55 years. She had a deep love for animals, flowers, music and antique shopping. Her children and grandchildren filled her life with faith and love.
She grew up in Kenly, NC and graduated from Glendale High School, North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, and UNC-Chapel with a degree in radiologic technology. She became a member of the American Registry of X-Ray Technicians.
Beginning at the age of nine, Sue loved and learned music. She later became a member of the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, and spent several years in piano playing auditions at Meredith College. On November 17, 1959, she met Marty, the love of her life, they were engaged on October 10, 1960, and then married for 55 years.
Marty enlisted in the Air Force after graduation from UNC. They lived in San Antonio, Texas while he was in Officer Training School, Arlington, Virginia, and then stationed with the Attach? Service in Clovis, New Mexico, and Tel Aviv, Israel. One of Sue's highlights was playing piano for the U.S. ambassador in Israel. Other international travel included Greece, Scotland, England and Mexico.
After four years of honorable service, Marty and Sue settled in Charlotte for 30 years to raise two daughters who provided wonderful additions to their lives; they were like a blessing sent from God.
Upon Marty's retirement, they moved to Frisco on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for 18 years. As Marty's health began to fail, they moved to and lived in the Village at Brookwood for three years. After Marty passed in December 2016, Sue lived with her daughter Susannah and her family, then at Cedar Ridge, and most recently at Abbotswood at Irving Park in Greensboro.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Sue was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Stancil.
Sue is survived by two daughters, Caroline Ashley Morris McCulloch of Skelmorlie, Scotland and Susannah Wesley Morris Williams and her husband Joseph of Burlington; three grandsons, Patrick, Nathanael and his fianc? Rachel McIntosh, and Jason; two granddaughters, Meaghan and her partner, Cal Steers and Abigail; and a great grandson, Otis.
A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington with Pastor David Mros officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
