Sue Blackmar Smith went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2021. She was born on October 22, 1929 to Dr. and Mrs. Francis Burton Blackmar in Columbus, Georgia. She was a vivacious, adventurous person, who was highly loved and enjoyed by family and friends. The celebration of her life will be on September 4, 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, Georgia, led by Rev. Roxane Gwyn and Rev. Timothy Graham, followed by a private graveside service.
Sue went to Wynnton Elementary School and Columbus High School. Following study at Shorter College, she graduated from the University of Georgia as an art education major, taught and took art classes throughout her life. She spent summers in school at Sewanee and Vanderbilt Universities. Later she completed a Masters in Education at the College of Charleston. Sue married Simeon Mozart Smith, Jr. in 1952 and moved as an Army wife to eight states, including West Point, NY, and lived abroad in Germany and Thailand. After her husband retired, she lived in Charleston, SC, for 31 years. She was an active member and the Christian Youth Education Director at St Michael's Episcopal Church for over five years. In 2000 she moved to her family farm in Cataula, Georgia, where she enjoyed raising Black Angus cows and planting trees. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church and St. Nicholas Episcopal Church. She was involved in Cataula Women's Club. Sue Smith was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter Ann Winston Smith Thornhill.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Smith Perry (Mikell DeWolf) and Elizabeth Dana Bolles (Chris Edelen, Jr.) and 11 grandchildren: Mikell Harrison Perry, Dr. Elizabeth Perry Hipp, Thomas Simeon Perry, Wilbur Theodore Thornhill, Ann Winston Thornhill, Simeon Van Noy Thornhill, Katherine Blackmar Gobel, Christopher Edelen Bolles III, Elizabeth Porter Bolles, Laura Winston Bolles, Dana Walker Sue Bolles, and 5 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Cox Funeral Home, Manchester, Ga. is assisting the Smith family with arrangements.
