Subroto Chatterjee, age 83, of Kolkata, West Bengal, passed away on November 11, 2021. He was born to parents Prof. Sushil Kumar Chatterjee and Smrity Chatterjee of Ballygunge Place. He is survived by his wife Kuljit, sister Sujata, sons Debabroto (Dave) and Priyabroto (Priyo), daughters-in-law Bineeta and Elvera, granddaughter Rhea, and grandson Victor.
With profound grief, we mourn the inconsolable loss of this giant of a human being. A towering and magnetic personality, Subroto shared boundless love and kindness for all. We pray to the Almighty that his soul rests in eternal peace.
A graduate of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, Subroto had a distinguished first career with Dunlop India. After taking early retirement, he joined the Mediterranean Trading Corporation, USA, as chief of India operations, and very successfully built and managed the business of exporting leather products.
Alongside his wife Kuljit, he also embarked on an entrepreneurial venture of running a bed and breakfast from their ancestral home. The guest house has been a resounding success and served as a host to guests from all over the world for the last thirty years.
Incredibly committed and selfless, Subroto was always looking to help others. He paved the way for his sons’ (Debabroto, Ph.D., and Priyabroto, Ph.D.) career accomplishments. He supported the lives of the guest house staff members and their families.
As he would always say, Subroto’s most significant accomplishment was marrying his wife Kuljit and enjoying an incredible 58 years of life-defining and transforming partnership.
