Duane passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in Newington Connecticut.
Duane was born in Petoskey, Michigan, on May 6, 1937. "The day the Hindenburg blew up" he would always say. He was born to Stuart and Evelyn (Fletcher) Swenor.
Duane was raised in Petoskey and graduated from Petoskey High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he was a courier from 1957 to 1960. His job was to hand deliver classified and confidential documents between Washington, D.C. and the Pentagon. He also served a tour in Guam.
Upon his return to Petoskey, he met Juanita Glaze and they were married in 1962. Duane and Juanita made their home in Petoskey where they were blessed with four children. Duane worked for a couple of different places before he settled at McLaughlin Manufacturing Company where he retired in 2005.
Duane would always enjoy a round of golf or several runs on the slopes of Nubs Nob. He loved games whether board or cards. His go-to games were Sequence, Cribbage and Chess which he played regularly with his brother.
He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family immensely, and prayed for all who needed prayers.
Duane is survived by his wife of 62 years, his daughter Angelique (Joe) Illes of Petoskey, Scott (Theresa) Swenor of Newington, CT and Shawn (Tina) Swenor of Alanson. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents Stuart and Evelyn, his brother Darwin, his sister Joyce, and his daughter Robin.
Per his wishes there will not be a memorial service. The family will hold a private memorial at Greenwood Cemetery in the summer where Duane will be laid to rest.
