Reverend Stuart Ashby Kersey, Jr., 97 of Senoia, Georgia, and formerly of Gaffney, SC, passed away Sunday, February 16, at Fayetteville Center for Nursing and Healing. He was born December 12, 1927 in Richmond, VA to the late Alene C. Clarke and Stuart A. Kersey, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Margaret Jean Coons Kersey.
Stuart grew up in Richmond VA with 3 brothers and 2 Sisters. He graduated from John Marshall High School and went to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR where he played football. After college he attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY where he completed his training as a pastor. He was a weekend pastor at many churches when he was a student during which time he met his wife while preaching in Austin IN.
He served in Lawrenceville, VA, Orange VA, Adelphi MD and retired as pastor of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church Gaffney SC. After his retirement, he served as interim pastor at several churches in Gaffney.
He was a past president of Gaffney Rotary and was a member of the Newnan chapter. In 1993, he was given the Order of the Palmetto in SC.
After his wife's death in 2015, he moved to Senoia GA next to his son's farm and drove his golf cart down each night for dinner while he was able. He joined Central Baptist Church in Newnan and sang in the choir while he could and enjoyed the services there.
The memorial service is Sunday, February 24, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Central Baptist Church in Newnan with Rev. Matt Sapp officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Austin IN. The family will receive friends on Sunday begining at 1:30 PM at the church.
Rather than flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Building Fund at Central Baptist Church 14 Broad Street Newnan GA 30263.

Survivors include his son, Stuart "Bo" H Kersey and his husband James D Gladney of Senoia GA and his daughter Ruth Nanette Kersey Richardson of Walhalla SC; sister, Jacquelyn Smith of Richmond VA and brother Donald Kersey also of Richmond VA. Grandchildren, Anna Richardson Preza and her husband Bladimir of Central, SC, Stephanie Richardson Kelly and her husband Jeff of Walhalla SC, and Stuart Andrew Richardson and his wife Savannah also of Wallhalla, SC. Greatgrandchildren, Emily Tubik, Allison Tubik of Walhalla, SC, Brooklyn Preza and Bladimir Preza, of Central SC. Tyler Richardson and his wife Kymberlie of Walhalla SC. Great-great grandchildren, Silas Richardson of Walhalla SC and Jaxon Richardson also of Walhalla SC.
