Stevie Varela was born on March 16, 2000 in Ventura, California to Steve & Michelle Varela of Oxnard, California. Stevie passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the age of 20. He was proceeded in death by his grandfathers, Butch Towers and Bill Varela, as well as his beloved pets, Scruffy and KittKatt.
Stevie was an avid lover of sports and during his young life had played basketball, and baseball. As he grew older, his love for basketball never diminished. Stevie found pleasure on the basketball court, a place where father and son spent so much time together. For the better part of Stevie's 4th through 8th grades school years, his father coached him in the art of basketball. Stevie went on to play basketball on many different teams throughout the years, and even traveled to different states to compete in basketball tournaments. But his ultimate highlight was winning the Rotary Basketball Championship. A victory deeply enjoyed because his father was the coach. Steve smiles now at his son's last conversation with him. Something that he would say when he was a younger kid. "Don't worry Dad, I'll take care of you". His favorite pastimes have always been going to sporting events and watching them on TV with his friends and family. Anyone who spent time with him heard about his love for the LA Rams, LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, and USC Trojans. Another was his joy in listening to music especially the SoundCloud rappers where he would always have his mom listen to the lyrics and its philosophical meaning behind them. Stevie was very passionate when playing his video games with his friends and his sister Livie. Stevie loved his cat Ladybug and was always playing with her. He really liked spoiling her by buying her toys and treaties. Livie and him would always argue about who she loved the most, of course it was Livie. Stevie graduated from Oxnard High School in 2018 and went on to attend Ventura College. He was planning on entering the Naval Reserves at the beginning of April 2021. Stevie spent a lot of his time with his friends and family. Friends and family were a huge part of Stevie's life and his passing touched the hearts of many. He will be greatly missed by all of those that have known him.
Stevie will be dearly missed by his parents, Steve and Michelle Varela, his two sisters, Olivia Varela and Brice (Matthew) Montanez, his niece and nephew, Malia and Keidan Montanez, and his grandmothers Mary Ann Towers and Angie Varela. He will also be missed dearly by his girlfriend, Marissa Garcia, his cat, Ladybug, his large family and many friends.
Stevie, our sweet, beautiful boy, thank you for being born to us. You are our world and we will miss you always. We love you! Mom & Dad ?
