Steven Lee Allen, 72, of Anacortes, passed away at home on February 4, 2022 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Steve was born on January 30, 1950 in Seattle, WA to Richard and Loretta Allen. He was raised in Anacortes and during his childhood he could often be found playing outside and occasionally getting into mischief.
Steve graduated from Anacortes High School in 1968. During his high school years he played trombone in the marching band and was manager of the boys' basketball team. He continued his education at Skagit Valley College where he enjoyed being manager of their boys' basketball program.
Steve's work career began at Anacortes Veneer where he was employed for several years. He was also employed by Publisher's Plywood Mill and enjoyed a variety of other jobs after they closed. Steve was a hard worker and often showed up well-before his scheduled shift to get an early start on his responsibilities. He ended his work career at Hexcel Corporation where he enjoyed making airplane parts until his health prevented him and he retired.
Steve was a member of the Anacortes Elks #1204 and Aerie 249 Fraternal Order of the Eagles. His hobbies included playing darts, shuffleboard, pool, crossword puzzles, gardening, going to the Anacortes Farmers Market, feeding the squirrels in his backyard, and watching various sports on TV. He especially enjoyed rooting for the University of Washington womens' basketball team, the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Mariners, and the Seattle Kraken. He also loved a good Western movie and enjoyed visiting the cinema. He could be found playing cribbage on the back patio, with his best friend Steve Brickley, on many occasions.
Steve was united in marriage to Sharon Larson on March 25, 2003. They shared a love of animals and Steve could often be found spoiling their cat, Gus. They also found joy in traveling and especially loved visiting the coast. Steve and Sharon liked getting in the car and going for a drive to visit some of their favorite places. They also entertained friends and family and enjoyed cooking and preparing meals together.
Steve was a loving and caring husband, step-dad, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew and great uncle. He is survived by his loving wife Sharon Larson-Allen, step-son Oliver Larson, father-in-law Tom Eberle, brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Lori Eberle, nephew Joel Eberle, brother-in-law Spencer Eberle, sister-in-law Kim Eberle; sister Barbara Shipman, aunt Margie Cristler, aunt and uncle Mike and Linda Eiford, nephew Douglas Shipman and niece Nicole (David) Ross, and numerous cousins. Steve was also an amazing great uncle to his two great nephews Greyson and Ethan Ross who enjoyed playing baseball in the backyard, picking blackberries, watching movies, and collecting shells and rocks on the beach with Uncle Steve. Steve is also survived by his "Brother" and closest friend, Steve Brickley.
Steve had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. He cared deeply for those closest to him and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Any memorials in his honor can be sent to The Cat's Meow, the Skagit Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society.
