Michael Steven Evans passed away in the morning hours of May 29, 2022, at Wellstar North Fulton Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was 59.
Steve was born on August 13, 1962, in Albany, to Jerry Wayne Evans and Virginia Carolyn Faulkner Evans. He spent his earliest years in Albany, East Point, and then Fairburn, where he graduated from Campbell High School. He enjoyed playing football and was tuba player in the concert band. After graduating from North Georgia College, he began a long and varied work career that included store management, brokering, and, in recent years, Financial Analyst for Home Depot Headquarters.
Two of his greatest joys in life were his children, Steven Evans, and Alexis Evans. He loved them, and his new daughter-in-law, McKenna, so very much and was so proud to be their dad. His pride in them was evident whenever he spoke of them and he cherished spending time with them. He loved his entire family and looked forward to any gatherings we had and was always ready to laugh.
He was a people person?always enjoying being with a group of people in fellowship, whether it was attending a concert, which was a favorite pastime, seeing a movie, attending Georgia Tech football games, cheering on the Braves, or just listening to a local band at a restaurant. He was an avid reader and always striving to learn new things, and also greatly enjoyed traveling, wanting to visit "downtown" as well as "out of the way places" no matter how far away during the many travels that led him to visit 48 states and several cruises to other countries. In every step of life, Steve was truly a friend to everyone and the first words people would use to describe him were that he was the "kindest" and "sweetest" person, with a heart of gold.
Steve became a Christian many years ago when he was in high school. In recent years, he has enjoyed being part of the singles group at North Point Church. The family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited in heaven with grandparents, relatives, and friends who have gone before and the assurance that the laughter and happiness will continue. While Steve will be desperately missed here on Earth, he is now at peace.
Steve is survived by his devoted parents, Jerry and Carolyn Evans of Newnan, his son, Steven (McKenna) Evans of Rome; daughter, Alexis Evans of Asheville, NC; brother, Jeff (Jill) Evans of Sharpsburg; sister, Penny (Lee) Sledge of Stockbridge; former spouse, Jean Waters Evans of Rome; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, at East Newnan Baptist Church in Newnan. Rev. Frank Powers and Dr. Anthony Langley will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville and from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the church.
The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at North Fulton Hospital. They did everything they could with the utmost compassionate care to aid Steve and the family.
