Goshen - Stephen Shearer, 65, died Monday, March 8 at his home after being diagnosed with bile duct cancer in August. Having the same cancer as Walter Payton gave him courage to face the disease.
He was born August 2, 1955 in Fort Wayne.
On Sept. 12, 1992 he married Deborah Ocock.
She survives along with two sons, Justin (Janielle) Shearer, Fort Wayne and Jacob Shearer, Topeka; a step-son, Jay (Ashley) Wetzel, Rome City; five grandchildren, Leah, Keona, Abigail, Caleb and Zachariah; and four siblings, Jack (Bonnie) Shearer, Fort Wayne, Jeff Zipay, Mansfield, Ohio, Diana (Rick) Bendele, Fort Wayne and Christina (Ken) Wormington, North Judson, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Shearer; his mother, Sharon (LeCount) Strieby; and a granddaughter, Elliona.
Mr. Shearer owned and operated S & D Services for 20 years. He enjoyed being with family and was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Stephen also enjoyed being on the golf course and was a Corvette enthusiast.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
