Stephen Miller, of Rome, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the age of 70, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Shane, his parents, John & Betty Crouch Miller, of Rome, and brothers, Dean Miller and Mark Miller of Lakeland, Florida.
Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Steve married the love of his life, Diane Minosh Miller of Herkimer, New York, in 1974. They moved to Rome the day after, where they built their beautiful life together and recently celebrated 48 years of marriage.
Steve loved his country and served as an honorable member of the United States Marine Corps. His love for God was even greater with Steve being a devoted and servant member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Always putting God first, Steve was involved with many services of the church including being a lector, Eucharist Minister, member of the Paris Pastoral Council, finance committee, and live long member of Council 4410 Knights of Columbus. He was a former Grand Kinght-3rd degree, Faithful Navigator-4th Degree, State District Deputy, as well as co-chair of the Knights of Columbus Annual BBQ. Steve was also a former Chairman of the Board of Education for St. Mary's Catholic School.
Throughout his life, Steve was involved with numerous community services including being Chairman of the Floyd County Board of Elections and Registration, serving on the Davies Shelter Board, member of the Rome-Floyd Planning Committee, and coach for the t-ball, softball, and basketball youth sports programs.
Steve was an active Realtor and served on the Greater Rome Board of Realtors and Georgia Association of Realtors. He served on the Broker's Committee and Grievance Committee among other state and local committees and boards. Steve became a Certified Trainer in 2008 for the Georgia Board of Realtors and in 2010 received the President's Award. In 2021, he established "Steve Miller and Associates" where he served as a Qualified Broker.
Steve is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Alison Miller Benson (Chris), and grandson, Aidan Miller Benson of Kennesaw; sister, Vickie Borys (Mark) of Plymouth, Indiana; brothers, John "Ike" Miller, III of Winter Haven, Florida, Joe Miller of Anderson, Indiana, Chris Miller (Debbie) of Rehobeth, Alabama, Tony Miller who gave Steve 28 additional years of life through a kidney donation, and his wife Debra of Rome. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Carson Miller and Collin Miller of Rome who they affectionately referred to him as "Poppy".
Steve was a man of great integrity, incredible energy, and a work ethic that was surpassed by none. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, Poppy, brother, teacher, mentor, and friend.
He will be honored with a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at St. Mary's Church with the family receiving friends from 9am until 11am. A Funeral Mass will take place beginning at 11am celebrated by Fr. Victor Galier, assisted by Deacon Stuart Neslin. A graveside service and inurnment will follow in the Parish Memorial Garden. A reception for family and friends will then take place in the Parish Hall, lower level of the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Foundation www.kidney.org, to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the St. Mary's Catholic School.
