Stella Louise Shaw, 80, on May 12 in Cumming, Georgia. Born in Ross Township, Greene County, Ohio, in her parent's home on July 29 to Robert Alan Moon and Mary Dorothy Moon nee Hite, the last of their five children. She grew up in Bowersville, Ohio, her family home. She was named after her maternal Grandmother, Stella Garber Hite. Surrounded by her Greene county extended family, she initially wanted many children and loved to sew, cook, care for companion pets, and tend her flower garden. She, however, did not want to live on a farm. She met her future husband, James Mack Shaw, the new kid from Kentucky, who also did not want to be a farmer. And despite being an excellent student, she married and left for the big city of Springfield, Ohio, after marrying Jim. Their first two children were born in Jamestown despite the drive from Springfield. Later, during a brief stay on a rented farmhouse outside of Xenia while pregnant with her third child, she quickly realized that the bedroom community of Xenia was a better option and gave birth to her third at Greene Memorial with her new family doctor, Warner. She soon found herself wanting to work outside the home and walked to the hospital for sewing work. And later, closer to our Laynewood home, the Sears catalog store provided her a career in the credit business. She was a determined worker and was soon transferred to the downtown Dayton store and then the Dayton Mall store. Socially she thrived with a growing family, friends, and coworkers who adored her. She bowled in leagues with Jim at Community lanes, loved Cassano's pizza, and started a succession of beloved dogs. She loved to tell jokes and make Christmas candies for friends and family. But most of all she loved her plants and flowers.
After her children flew the nest, she was transferred to the Columbus, Ohio, Sears office building. Later to the Plano, Texas Sears collection center, where she reluctantly took a middle management buyout and finished her credit collection career with Capital One Credit services. She and Jim lived almost twenty years in Plano, close to her sister, Mary, in Houston, and daughter's (Gail) family in San Antonio (Texas close). Her last retirement community with her daughter's (Carla) family was in Cumming, GA, for ten years. There she achieved her dream of gardening in the warm southern climate and birding passion.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert (LeRoy) and Marion, husband, Jim, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Shaw nee Adkins. She is survived by her brother Ray (Wanda) Moon, sister, Mary Wilson, son, Jeffrey (Vicki) Shaw, daughters, Gail (Pat) Starkweather, and Carla (Juan) Melesi, grandchildren, Sean Starkweather, Joshua (Kristy) Shaw, Daniel Gemzer, Jacqueline (Alex) Melesi, Erika (Jay) Gemzer, Zachary (Kasey) Shaw, Alexander (Karen) Shaw, Michael Starkweather, Benjamin (Erin) Shaw, Reece (Devin) Shaw, and great-grandchildren, Vladimir, Carter, Matilda, Logan, Franklin, Gloriana, and Theodore, many cousins, and friends. Memorial services will be private at a later date. Special thanks to the healthcare workers at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, Ga, Brian Center nursing rehab, and at Forsythe Hospital and clinics
